BecomE a Builder

Our community is built by people who are inspired by a vision of an egalitarian Jewish community which provides a space for connection, meaning, joy, healing and hope. We call ourselves Builders as we are each investing our money and time to build the community that we want to belong to.

Joining us for our services and events is a great way to get to know us and explore whether you'd like to become a Builder.

As a Builder, you pay the level of monthly or annual fees you can afford on a sliding scale, which covers community costs and enables capacity-building. You'll then be invited to meet with Rabbi Daniel and a member of our Hineni Team to navigate the many opportunities to learn, connect and build together, identifying a meaningful way for you to contribute and supporting your development as a volunteer and leader.

FAQs AbOUT BUILDERSHIP

'What if I can’t afford Buildership?'

We never want financial constraints to get in the way of joining Makor Hayim, so we have a few different contribution levels to fit different needs. If you have any questions or concerns, please indicate in the application form and we’ll be happy to talk it through with you and help you find a level of contribution that is meaningful for you.

'I'm not Jewish / my partner isn't Jewish. Can we still become Builders?'

Absolutely! Some of us are Builders who are not Jewish, called Ally Builders, who regularly participate and contribute meaningfully to the Makor Hayim community. For those who want, there are also opportunities to learn more about Judaism and Jewish culture. If you'd like to hear more about what belonging to Makor Hayim is like from one of our Ally Builders, get in touch and we can set up an informal chat.

'I belong to another shul / I live outside of the UK, but love Makor Hayim. What should I do? '

We love you too, and we'd love to build this community with you!

As a synagogue, we have an obligation to ensure our Builders are able to take part in a burial scheme if they live in the UK and this is their primary synagogue.

If you are living out of the UK or if this is your second synagogue, but you would still like to be a part of the Makor Hayim community, please select the 'Bespoke Buildership' option when completing the application form, and we can discuss a financial model that will suit your needs.
